Mohammad Aly of Pittsburgh

In the Spring of 1998, I was introduced to Mohammed Aly by Atef. They were friends from Aswan, Egypt. At that time, I was a PhD student getting ready for my doctoral Comprehensive exams. He helped me borrow some books at the Hillman Library using his account; almost 60 books if I recall correctly. Later that year, I took Atef and his family to attend a picnic at Schenley Park, joining Muhammaed Aly and a few of his Upitt friends. I also remember Amin making his website for $40.00 (Amin, he wants your email!)

Eleven years later, his brother came to IUP. His name is Ahmed. I didn't know Ahmed is Muhammed Aly's brother until today, when Ahmed told me about it. He'd only just found out about my friendship with Muhammed Aly when he called for Eid wishes today...

Interesting how the world turns...

Meeting Surin

I took this pic a while back. I used my LG to snap it, for some reason. Last week, when I emptied its memory card, I wasn't sure what the pic was all about; seemed like I'd taken a shot of someone else's blue smartie..

Fluid Changes on Subie

It's been three years and two months since I bought subie. It's now odoed at over 154,000 miles, and so I decided to get the transaxles drained and refreshed with new oil.(file pic of subie)
Today was a cool Sunday morning with a promise of some sun in the afternoon. First, I drained the front transaxle fluid. Then, I drained the engine oil since it had already logged 3K miles and over 6 months since the last change.

Put in a bit over 1 quart of of el cheapo super tech 75W90 (GL5) into the axle's dipstick hole, and 3.5 litres of 5W20 Motorcraft (bought a five quart bottle for the Focus a few years ago, never got to use it) into the engine. Also changed the Mobil filter with a regular Parolator...

Then, I drained the rear transaxle of its oil and with Luqman's help, put in almost a quart of new super tech 75W 90.

The plugs for the transaxles were all tight and required much time to loosen. Finally, by 4:00 I was testing subie on S. Sixth. And went ahead to Advance Auto for three quarts of Mobil 75W90 LS, this time for smart's tranny fluid change, TBA. Subie tested out fine with no strange noise, smoke or smell.
